Govinda is one of the most popular actor of 90’s. He is also known as Virar Boy as  he hails from Virar locality in Mumbai.  Govinda’s mother was a singer and actress. His father was also an actor. Govinda is a true all rounder in every sense. He is a superb actor, dancer and entertainer. Govinda has impeccable comic timing. He is one actor who is loved by both masses and classes. Govinda’s dancing talent is probably among the best among bollywood actor of his generation. His effortless dancing skills make him any choreographer’s dream dancer. Besides this Govinda is also a good singer and has sung some songs in his movies.

Govinda made his debut as an actor with the movie Tan Badan opposite Khushboo which was directed by his uncle. However his first released movie was Ilzaam opposite Neelam. This movie became a big success at box office. Govinda’s acting and dancing in this movie was highly appreciated. His next release was Love 86. In this movie he was cast against Neelam. Rohan Kapoor, Farha and Tanuja were other leading cast of the film. This movie too became an instant success and was second hit movie of Govinda’s career.

Khudgarz  was a multi starrer movie. The star cast of the movie had big names like Jeetendra, Shatrudhan Sinha along with Govinda in this movie. Neelam again played his love interest in the movie. This movie was a resounding success at box office.

Govinda played emotional character in the movies like Ghar Ghar Ki Kahani and Swarg. He  worked with director David Dhawan for the first time in the movie Taqatwar.  Shola aur Shabnam was their next film together. This was a comedy masala movie starring Govinda, Divya Bharti and Anupam Kher. The movie became a runaway success at box office.  After this Govinda and David Dhawan’s chemistry worked wonders in lots of movies and Govinda’s career also reached new heights.

Aankhen is one of the most memorable film of Govinda’s acting career. In this movie he shared the screen with Chunky Pandey, Kader Khan, Himani Shivpuri and Rageshwari. This comedy movie directed by David Dhawan was the highest earning movie of 1993.  Raja Babu another Govinda David Dhawan movie was a super hit. Govinda and David Dhawan together worked in Hero No 1, Sajan Chale Susral, Coolie No.1, Haseena Maan Jayegi, Deewana Mastana. Govinda shared the screen with his contemprories Sanjay Dutt, Anil Kapoor in these movies and their chemisrty worked wonders. Govinda worked with Amitabh Bachchan in the movie Bade Miya Chote Miya under the direction of David Dhawan. Govinda’s role as Chote Miya had the audience in splits.

In later stage of his career Govinda made a comeback with  the movie Partner. In this movie he shared the screen with Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. This movie was succesful at box office.

Govinda is not very active in bollywood these days. He entered politics and joined the Indian National Congress in 2004. He resigned from the party after a brief stint. Govinda has appeared in dance shows as celebrity judge. He has also appeared couple of times in the popular Kapil Sharma Show.
