Baazi is a 1951 hindi movie directed by Guru Dutt. The film stars charismatic Dev Anand, Kalpana Kartik and Geeta Bali in lead roles. This film was produced by Dev Anand’s own production company Navketan Films. Story and screenplay of the film is written by Balraj Sahni. This movie is also known for its music composed by S. D. Burman.
Baazi Storyline Plot
Baazi is a crime thriller movie which set new standards for hindi films. Madan (Dev Anand) is an unemployed youth who belongs to a middle class family but due to circumstances has to live in poverty. He has a younger sister Manju who is sick. Madan is unable to find a decent job and tries his luck at gambling. His luck shines in gambling and he earns the reputation of being a lucky gambler. A man named Pedro takes him to an unknown place where he meets a dancer named Leela. Pedro introduces him to Maalik who offers Madan to work for him by luring rich people for gambling at his club. At first Madan refuses the offer as his conscience does not allows him to do so but later he accepts the offer as he needs the money urgently for the treatment of his sister Manju who is suffering from tublerculosis. He befriends Dr. Rajani ( Kalpana Kartik ) who runs a free clinic for the treatment of poor and needy. He seeks Rajni’s help for the treatment of his sister. Gradually Madan and Rajni start loving each other. Rajni’ father (K. N Singh) who is a lawyer does not approves of Rajni and Madan’s relationship as does not consider Madan apt for Rajni because of his poor background. Madan is in dire need of money for the treatment of his sister’s illness. He accepts the offer of gambling at Maaliik’s club. Rajni’s father and Maailk are the same person. Madan discusses his problems with dancer Leela who starts liking her and sacrifices her life to save Madan when a bullet is fired at him. Madan is framed for Leela’s murder as his finger prints were found on the revolver. He is arrested by Inspector Ramesh and is sentenced to be hanged. Later Ramesh learns with some evidence that Madan is innocent. He lies to Rajni’s father that Madan has been hanged. Rajni’s father reveals in over enthusiasm that he has planned to kill Madan as he did not like him. He is arrested by Inspector Ramesh and Madan is proven innocent. Madan is freed from jail after three months and re unites with Rajni.
